Among the groups that have received these donations are:
- Cancer Survivors House to benefit Cancer Services of NM: Money went to support their bi-annual retreat for families dealing with cancer in NM
- Public Safety House to benefit Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Department: Money went to provide bulletproof vests for police officers and start a fund for firefighters who are hurt in the line of duty. This project was especially close to Rachel Matthew Homes because our president, Steve Nakamura, is retired police officer and Art Villescas, our superintendent who has been working with Steve since the start of the company, is a retired firefighter. After this donation, Steve actually received a call from a police officer who was shot in the line of duty, but not injured because he was wearing one of the bulletproof vests that came from our donation. It saved his life.
- Homebuilders Association House to benefit Central NM Homebuilders Association: Money went to help support the Homebuilders Association during a rather difficult few economic years. Steve says we have always had such support from them, it was our pleasure to help support them in return.
- Make A Wish House – Steve and his wife, Marlene, felt a personal connection with the Make A Wish organization. Their son’s long term girlfriend has a friend who was the very first recipient of Make a Wish in New Mexico. They felt that they wanted to support it further and donated all profit from that home to the Make A Wish organization.
